Get Windows flavour on ISO image

Vista, Win 7, Win 8, Win 8.1, Win 10

There are a variety of Windows flavours, Pro, Home, Starter for instance, which all reside on installation media which appears remarkably similar.  In a workshop environment, where ISO installation images may be written to flash or optical media on demand, much time can be wasted attempting to match images to product keys and previously installed versions.

ISO image files must be mounted. 

To find the flavour of windows from installation media mounted as the F: drive, use the following command

> dism /Get-WimInfo /WimFile:F:\sources\install.wim

Where media contains multiple versions.  Further information can be obtained by appending the index number

> dism /Get-WimInfo /WimFile:F:\sources\install.wim /index:1
