Win 7 restore corrupt user profile registry key

Solution

Restart in safe mode with command prompt

Enable administrator account

net use administrator /active:yes

net user administrator newpassword

 

Restart and sign into Windows as the administrator

Using regedit locate the registry key

hklm/software/microsoft/windowsnt/currentversion/profilelist

Locate the disabled profile key with the Sid value appended .bak

Locate the temporary key with the same Sid value, without .bak

backup both registry keys

Delete the temporary key that DOES NOT have the .bak extension

Remove the .bak extension from the disabled key to re-enable it

Change the State value to 0

Restart
